You first need to emerge atop if not already installed to enable atop logging.
/usr/bin/emerge -av atop
Then modify
nano /usr/share/atop/atop.daily
And configure your interval (default 600). Setting it to 60 will tell atop to run every 1 minute and save the output into /var/log/atop/atop_XXXXXXX
You can then read this file using
atop -r /var/log/atop/atop_XXXXXXXX
Navigate through the time using t (for forward) and T (for back).
Or you can use b to enter the time.
Log reader also allows you to modify the output like in atop
a – sort in order of most active resource.
c – revert to sorting by CPU consumption (default).
d – sort in order of disk activity.
m – sort in order of memory usage
n – sort in order of network activity
For the new Artix environment, you need to do the following,
pacman -Sy
pacman -S atop
nano /etc/default/atop
make sure that the file looks like below,
## default options #LOGOPTS="" ## default interval in seconds LOGINTERVAL=60 ## default number of days LOGGENERATIONS=28 ## log location LOGPATH="/var/log/atop"
then you need to create the init.d script,
nano /etc/init.d/atop && chmod 775 /etc/init.d/atop
#!/usr/bin/openrc-run # Copyright 2021 Artix Linux # Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2 supervisor=supervise-daemon command="/usr/bin/atop -- -w /var/log/atop/atop.log 60"
start atop /etc/init.d/atop start
