General :: HOWTO Sounds Files

TABLE OF CONTENTS

This document provides the tools to administer all sound files utilized by PBXware.

Filter

  • Directory: A drop-down list allows users to select a specific system directory. Upon selection, only the sound files located within that chosen directory will be displayed. The directories are presented in alphabetical order.

  • Search: A search bar is available to locate sound files based on a provided search string. The default search string is "A", and this field cannot be left empty. The search function will identify all files whose names begin with the entered string, and the search is case-insensitive.

Type

  • The available file types for a specific sound file can be viewed by hovering the mouse cursor over the three-dots icon associated with that file (as depicted in the accompanying screenshot).

Options

The following actions can be performed on sound files using the options located at the top of the page:

Convert

Allows the conversion of selected sound file(s) to a desired audio codec.

After selecting the file(s) and clicking the ‘Convert’ button, a drop-down list will appear, presenting the available codecs for conversion. Selecting a codec from the list will initiate the conversion process for the chosen sound file(s). Multiple files can be selected and converted simultaneously.

Rename

Enables the renaming of a selected sound file. Only alphanumeric characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9), hyphens (-), and underscores (_) are permitted in the new filename. To rename a file, check the box next to the desired sound file, then click on the file's current name to make the necessary modifications directly. After editing the name, click the ‘Rename’ command button to save the changes. Multiple files can be selected and renamed simultaneously.

Delete

Permits the deletion of selected sound file(s).

Important: This action will remove all associated file types for the chosen file(s). To delete, check the box next to the sound file(s) and click the ‘Delete’ command button. Multiple files can be selected and deleted simultaneously.

Download

Allows users to download selected sound file(s) to their local computer. Clicking the ‘Download’ command button will present a drop-down menu containing the available audio formats for the selected file(s). Users can choose a specific format to download. Alternatively, selecting "All" from the drop-down will download a ZIP archive containing all available audio formats for the selected file(s). Multiple files can be selected and downloaded simultaneously.

Upload

Facilitates the uploading of sound files from the user's desktop to the PBXware system. Click the ‘Upload’ button to open a file selection dialog, allowing you to choose a sound file from your computer. A progress bar will be displayed during the file upload process.

Note: Uploaded .mp3 and .wav files will be automatically converted to other native audio formats. Other file formats besides .mp3 and .wav will be uploaded without automatic conversion.

Listen

This option allows listening to a sound file. Select the box next to a sound file and click ‘Listen’ to hear it.

TIP: PBXware will play only sound file types equal to enabled codecs on the dialing extension.

For example, if Extension 1000 has only the gsm codec enabled, when the same Extension logs in as a Queue Agent by dialing '*202 + $AGENT_NUMBER', all sounds played by PBXware (asking for password etc...) will be in the '.gsm' format.

If multiple codecs are enabled for Extension 1000 (ulaw, alaw, gsm), PBXware will play the sound files with the better sound quality (ulaw/alaw).
